A ROCKY CHRISTMAS
MUSIC (A few bars of the song: “O Little Town of Bethlehem”)
NARRATOR In a little town not far away, lived a little boy named Rocky.
His family is poor, but they always managed to get by with his
father’s job. One day it was Christmas Eve and Rocky began
to wonder . . .
Scene I in Rocky’s house
ROCKY I really wish that I could have a bicycle for Christmas. I think
I’ll ask my dad again, if I could just have a bicycle and nothing
else. (Cliff enters) Dad, is there any way that I could have a
bicycle for Christmas? That’s all I want and nothing else!
CLIFF You know we can’t afford a bike. We got you a few other nice
gifts that I think that you will really like.
ROCKY If I had a bike like Piper has . . . Why I could even go around to
my friends and invite them to church!
CLIFF Sounds like you have good intentions, Rocky, but if the Lord
wants you to have a bike, I’m sure He will give you one!
(Rocky looks upset) Just pray about it! Why don’t you go
outside and play for a while. Come back home when it gets
dark! (Rocky turns with his head down) (Cliff exits)
ROCKY I know what I’m gonna do! I’m gonna run away from home!
It seems like I can never get anything nice when Christmas
comes around! I think I’ll go to the store while they’re still
open, maybe I’ll buy a candy bar with my allowance. (Rocky
exits)

Scene II in a store
ROCKY (Rocky and Crystal enter) Excuse me, but I noticed your
store has a lot of decorations all over. How can your store
afford so much?
CRYSTAL Most of these are from last year. We make a lot of sales during
Christmas, so we can make enough money to pay for them.
ROCKY Oh, I see! How much is this candy bar?
CRYSTAL Fifty four cents, with tax!
ROCKY Oh, all I have is fifty cents. That’s all my father gave me for my
allowance.
CRYSTAL Well . . .It is Christmas . . .I’ll go ahead and let you have it for
fifty cents.
ROCKY THANK YOU!! (Both exit)
CHOIR “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day”
Scene III outside the store
ROCKY (Enters with Grandpa who is ringing a bell) Grandpa, why
are you ringing that bell?
GRANDPA It’s a tradition to ring the bell to get people’s attention, so that
they might give money to the needy.
ROCKY Who are the needy?
GRANDPA I’m raising money for the Mayview Christian Orphanage.
ROCKY I wish I could help out, but I already spent my allowance.
2
GRANDPA That’s very thoughtful of you Rocky . . .Say, I’m getting
ready to go back to the orphanage. Would you like to walk
with me and visit the children there?
ROCKY O.K., that sounds like fun, but I can’t stay long! (Rocky and
Grandpa exit)
Scene IV at the Orphanage
GRANDPA (Rocky, Grandpa and children enter) Hello, boys and girls!
I brought my grandson with me today and his name is Rocky.
CHILDREN Hello, Rocky!
GRANDPA Let’s start by singing “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear”
(Choir joins in on the song.) (All exit)
Scene V outside Rocky’s house
PIPER (Piper and Cliff enter) Hello, Mr. Jones! I thought I would
bring my bike over so that Rocky could have it. My father’s
getting me a bigger bike for Christmas.
CLIFF Why thank you, Piper, but I don’t have any money to pay you
for it. I already spent my money buying other gifts.
PIPER That’s alright, Mr. Jones. I wanted it to be a surprise, anyway.
Rocky has done so many nice things for me, that I talked it
over with Dad and he said it would be a great idea. Oh, where’s
Rocky, anyway?
CLIFF He went out playing somewhere. He should be coming home
when it gets dark. (Both say good byes to each other and exit)

Scene VI at Orphanage
ROCKY (Rocky, Grandpa and Children enter) That was fun singing,
but what else do you do for Christmas?
OPAL Tomorrow, we get to open up a present.
ROCKY You mean, each of you get to open up only one present for
Christmas?
SANDY We don’t have parents like most kids do and your Grandpa
can only buy so much. But, we don’t mind it because he really
cares for us.
GRANDPA Rocky, I don’t think you realize just how much we really do
have! This is a Christian orphanage and many times we talk
about things we have in Jesus Christ, our Savior and King!
We try to lay up treasures in heaven, by doing His will.
ROCKY Thank you all for the nice time, but I think I better be going
now, it’s getting late.
GRANDPA Thank you for coming over. Stop by anytime! (All exit, except
Rocky)
Scene VII at Rusty’s House
ROCKY (Rocky and Rusty enter) Hi, Rusty! How’s Christmas this
year?
RUSTY Oh, fun I guess! Rocky, I have to go inside now, because my
dad is calling me in. Can you come over to my house?
ROCKY O.K.! (Both exit and reenter)

Scene VIII in Rusty’s house
RUSTY Every Christmas Eve, my dad reads a story from the Bible.
Would you like to join us?
ROCKY Sure, as long as it doesn’t get too dark! Say, Rusty, could you
tell me what you’re getting for Christmas?
RUSTY That’s one thing that I won’t know until tomorrow. My parents
are real good about keeping secrets, you know.
ROCKY (Beryl enters) Hello, Mr. Smith! Rusty invited me to
listen to you read the Bible about Jesus.
BERYL It’s nice to have you with us, Rocky! (Opal and Piper enter)
This year I’m going to have the narrator read the story and the
choir will sing some songs. Are you ready choir? Are you
ready narrator? (All exit)
CHOIR (Sings “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”)
NARRATOR So all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was
spoken of the Lord through the prophet saying: “Behold, the
virgin shall be with child and bare a Son, and they shall call His
name Emmanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” (NKJV)
CHOIR (Sings “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”)
NARRATOR Then Joseph being aroused from sleep did as the angel of the
Lord commanded him and took to him his wife. And did not
know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he
called His name Jesus.
CHOIR (Sings “Joy to the World”
5
NARRATOR Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days
of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to
Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the
Jews? For we have seen His star in the east, and are come to
worship Him. When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled,
and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the
chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of
them where the Christ was to be born. So they said to him, “In
Bethlehem of Judea for thus it is written by the prophet: “But
you , Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are not the least among
the rulers of Judah: for out of you shall come a Ruler who will
shepherd my people Israel.
CHOIR (Sings “O Little Town of Bethlehem”)
NARRATOR Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men,
Determined from them what time the star appeared. And he sent
to Bethlehem, and said, “Go and search carefully for the
young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back
word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.” When
they had heard the king, they departed; and, behold the star,
which they had seen in the East, went before them, till it came
and stood over where the young Child was, when they saw the
star they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
CHOIR (Sings “The First Noel”)
NARRATOR And when they had come into the house, they saw the young
Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshipped
Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they
presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense and myrrh.
CHOIR (Sings “We Three Kings”)

ROCKY Thank you for having me over for the Story. I learned that
there’s more than just having presents for Christmas. Jesus is
the best gift for all of us. And if it wasn’t for Him, there
wouldn’t be any Christmas! I was wanting a bicycle for
Christmas, but now I don’t care if I don’t get one. I have my
family and I have Jesus and that’s all I need!
CLIFF I’m glad you feel that way, Rocky!
ROCKY I better go home now. I’m sure my dad’s wondering where I
am by now! (All say good-byes as they exit)
Scene IX in Rocky’s home
ROCKY (Rocky and Cliff enter) Hello, Dad! I’ve learned a lot of things
about Christmas. What’s more important than having a bicycle
is having a nice family with Jesus. If He really wants me to have
a bicycle, I’m sure He’ll give me one someday!
CLIFF That’s good, Rocky, now it’s time for you to go to bed.
ROCKY Good night, Dad!
CLIFF Good night, son! (Both exit) (Dim lights)
CHOIR (Sings “ Silent Night”)
Scene X Christmas morning in Rocky’s house
NARRATOR And then it was Christmas morning . . .
ROCKY (Sandy, Crystal and Cliff enter with Rocky who
enters from other side of stage) Wowww! Look at this! It’s a
bicycle just like Piper’s!
CLIFF It was Piper’s! He came over to give it to you while you were
gone!
ROCKY Did you have to pay for it?
7
CLIFF No, it was a free gift. He said he was giving it to you because
he was getting a bigger bike and because you have done so many
nice things for him!
ROCKY Wowww! Dad, this is the best Christmas I’ve ever had! And I
have the best family and the best friends in the whole world!!!
(Both say good-byes to audience and exit)
