FORGIVENESS

(GRANDPA and ROCKY ENTER)

ROCKY        Grandpa, I’m having trouble. I’ve been thinking about myself and the

bad things that I have done in my past. I don’t feel like God loves me

                  sometimes.

GRANDPA  Rocky, did you know that Jesus loves us so much that He died for us

on the cross. He died for all of your sins before you ever sinned.

Psalms 86:5 says, “For you Lord, are good and ready to forgive.”

He has forgiven us but we need to forgive ourselves, too.

ROCKY       I asked God to forgive me but I guess I really haven’t forgiven

                 myself!

GRANDPA  Philippians 3:13 says, “Brethren, I count not myself to have

apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which

are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.”

Rocky, we can’t change our past but we can change our future.

ROCKY       O.K., Grandpa, but I got in a fight with Rusty the other day and I feel

bad about it. Since I can’t change what I’ve done, how can I make

                  things better now?

GRANDPA  You can start by asking Rusty to forgive you. (RUSTY ENTERS) Well,

                  here comes Rusty, now!

ROCKY       Rusty! I need to talk to you, please!

RUSTY       What is it, Rocky?

ROCKY       I’m sorry about fighting with you the other day. Will you please

forgive me? I promise I won’t fight with you again!

RUSTY         Yes, I forgive you. Will you please forgive me for making you

                   angry?

ROCKY        Yes, Rusty, I forgive you, too!

GRANDPA  Rocky and Rusty, you know it’s a good thing to ask for forgiveness

as soon as you can. It gets rid of those bad feelings that you could

carry with you for a long time. What if one of you were to die?

Then you could never ask the other for forgiveness. And those

feelings could stay with you if you don’t ask God to forgive you and

                  you don’t forgive yourself.

ROCKY       I guess it’s better to do what is right than to do something to ask

                  forgiveness for!

GRANDPA  We should also forgive the other person right away so we don’t hold

in bad feeling about the other person. We can’t honor God if we keep

thinking bad thoughts about them. Psalms 94:11 says, “The Lord

knows the thoughts of man.” There is just one more thing I need ask

the both of you. Are you two going to do something to help keep you

                  from fighting again?

ROCKY       I know what we can do! We can make sure that someone else is

                  around when we play together.

RUSTY        Sounds like a good idea to me, too!

GRANDPA  It’s really good to hear that from the both of you! So, the two of

you asked for each other’s forgiveness and asked for God’s

forgiveness. You also decided to not fight again and are doing

something to make sure it doesn’t happen again. I’m really

proud of the both of you!

ROCKY        Thank you, Grandpa! I’ll go see if Opal will play with us.

RUSTY         Yeah and maybe we can find something that she likes to do, too!

GRANDPA  By the way, what kind of fight did you two get into?

RUSTY        It was just a little fight!

ROCKY       Yeah, we were just fighting over our toys!

GRANDPA  Good, because if it was bad, we would have had to take you to the

puppet doctor to give you stitches.

ROCKY        Goodbye, Grandpa. We’re going to go look for Opal!

GRANDPA  Goodbye, Rocky and Rusty! (ALL EXIT)
