UNCLE BERYL’S SUNDAY SCHOOL –
WISDOM

[Puppets’ needs: Piper (Solomon) a crown; Opal (first woman) a headscarf;

Crystal (second woman) a headscarf; and Rusty (sword bearer) a sword]

BERYL   (Beryl and all children enter) Good morning boys and girls! Today

               we’re going to learn about wisdom. Who can tell me what book of the

               Bible talks about wisdom?

ROCKY   I know! I know! Adverbs!

SANDY   No, not adverbs, Rocky! You mean Proverbs.

BERYL   That’s right, Proverbs. Who can tell me the name of the wisest king
               who ever lived?

PIPER     Solomon!

BERYL   Yes, Piper! Solomon was also a judge and he prayed for wisdom to

               be a good judge, instead of praying for riches and fame. God heard

               his prayer and made him the wisest man who ever lived. Can anyone

               tell me what wisdom means?

ROCKY   Does it mean to be real smart?

BERYL    In a way it does, but real smart people aren’t always wise. Can anyone

                 else tell me what wisdom means?

SANDY    It means to know what is the truth.

BERYL    Very good, Sandy! Let’s take a look at a decision Solomon had to

               make that became known throughout his entire kingdom. Are you

               ready?

ALL          Yes!

BERLY    O.K., Let’s go! (All exit)

SANDY    (Sandy enters with Crystal as the two women and Piper as Solomon)

                  O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was

                  delivered of a child with her in the house. And it came to pass the

                   third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered

                   also; and we were together, there was no stranger in the house, save

                   we two in the house. And this woman’s child died in the night;

                   because she overlaid it. And she took my son from beside me,

                   while thine handmaid slept and laid it on her and laid her dead child

                   on me. And when I woke in the morning to nurse my child, behold,

                    it was not my son, which I did bear.

CRYSTAL   Nay, but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son.

SANDY       Nay, but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son.

PIPER        The one saith, “This is my son that liveth, and thy son is dead” and

                  the other saith, “Nay, but thy son is dead and my son is living.”

                  Bring me a sword. (Rocky enters with a sword) Divide the living

                  in two, and give half to one and half to the other.

SANDY      Give her the child and in no wise slay it; she is the mother thereof.

CRYSTAL  Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.

PIPER        Give her (points to Sandy) the living child, and in no wise slay it;

                  she is the mother thereof. (All exit)

BERYL      (Enter all Sunday school class) And all Israel heard of the judgment

                  which the king had judged; and they feared the king; for they saw

                  the wisdom of God was in him to do judgment. (Turns to audience)

                  I hope you all learned something today. Take some time to read the

                  book of Proverbs and you will learn about the wisdom that Solomon

                              had. It’s time for us to go, so we’ll see you later! Bye! (All exit)
