WHAT FAITH IS
CRYSTAL Sandy, what is faith?
SANDY In the Bible, in Hebrews 11:1, it says, “Now faith is the substance
of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Let’s first
talk about what it means by “evidence of things not seen.” Crystal,
I want you to close your eyes and tell me if I’m still here.
CRYSTAL I can’t close my eyes.
SANDY Oh, I forgot! Turn around to where you can’t see me. (Crystal
turns around) Do you believe that I’m still here?
CRYSTAL Yes, because I can hear your voice.
SANDY Then, when you couldn’t see me, you had faith that I was still here.
We have faith in God because of His Word. The Word is proof of
God. Do you know of other things that prove that God exists?
CRYSTAL Seeing the love of Jesus in a Christian’s life proves it!
SANDY Very good! Now let’s talk about the part of that verse that says
“the substance of things hoped for.” If I say I’m going to give you
a candy bar, would you believe it?
SANDY The candy bar is a thing that you hoped for. Do you know of
anything in the Bible that Christians hope for?
CRYSTAL The soon return of Jesus Christ!
SANDY That’s right!
CRYSTAL Oh, Sandy, speaking of candy bars, I’m hungry for one!
SANDY Me, too! Let’s go to my hose and have some! (Both exit)
